Healthcare Certifications You Can Get in One Year, or Less!

The healthcare industry is at the forefront of every news day. But did you know that there are staffing shortages across the sector? Even better, did you know you can fill them?

You don’t need a bachelor’s degree and years of experience to start your healthcare career. There are certifications available that you can get in less than a year. Some only take a few weeks!

Even better, these certifications can set you up for further education and career progression, so you can earn while you learn. What certifications are available? Here are three to consider.

Phlebotomy Technician

Phlebotomy technicians take blood samples from patients and then prepare them for the lab. The training course is often very hands-on, and it can take anywhere from two to six months to complete.

Once you complete your certification, you might work in a clinic, hospital, research center, or blood donor center. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs will grow 23% between 2018 and 2028, which makes this an excellent certification for finding fast employment.

Medical Coding/Medical Billing

Medical coding and billing are administrative jobs that communicate between a hospital or clinic and insurance companies. You’ll do things like prepare paperwork for processing, organize insurance claims, and work with patients.

Although it’s administrative, you need to know a lot about HIPAA laws and insurance laws and regulations. As a result, training is essential, and certifications are now the standard.

Thankfully, you can wrap up a Medical Coding or Medical Billing Specialist certification in a year or less.

Medical Assistant

Do you enjoy working with people, but aren’t ready to commit to the time and expense of pursuing a nursing or medical degree? You can get your feet wet and make a difference in patients’ lives by becoming a medical assistant.

As a medical assistant, you are a member of the team’s support staff. You might take vital signs, prepare patients, begin taking medical histories, or help with administrative tasks. An accredited certification program is typically necessary to find a job. During the program, you’ll learn about federal healthcare regulations and the more hands-on aspects of the role, such as specimen collection.

The BLS says the job outlook will grow by 23% between 2018 and 2028, making this a great career available to you before the end of 2020.
